can having a vaginal yeast infection cause oral thrush?

I just got over a vaginal yeast infection last week, after taking diflucan, as prescribed by my doctor. It is gone, but now I have formed this thick white coating on my tongue that looks like thrush. Could having a yeast infection recently caused my mouth to now be infected with yeast? Is it possible that there is still yeast present in my body?

Symptoms With Candida Yeast Infections

Candida yeast infections can show up in many different ways depending on the individual.

The list below includes some of the symptoms of Candida yeast infection:

Vaginitis may be the most commonly known symptom of candida yeast infection, but there are others. Those can include fatigue, skin problems, or food and environmental allergies.

The signs and symptoms of Candida yeast infections are determined by its location. Women more than men have an increased chance of yeast infections. Their symptoms usually involve vaginitis. This is seen as a white discharge that causes itching and irritation of the vagina. Candida yeast infections also can cause painful sexual intercourse and burning sensations during urination.

Thrush or oral Candidiasis is found in both adults and infants. The symptoms include thick white patches found on the inside of the mouth. If the white patches are disturbed, this leads to bleeding. The patches are sore and people generally avoid eating or drinking to avoid the pain.

Proper hydration is important for people who have oral thrush. Older people tend to show signs of oral thrush by first exhibiting cracks and sores at the corners of the mouth.

When the skin’s outer layers break down, the Candida organisms living on the skin can overgrow causing an infection. This infection is most apt to happen on the warm moist areas of the body such as skin folds and the area covered by a diaper. On the skin, superficial Candida skin infection looks like a red flat rash with wavy edges.

When men have a yeast infection on their penis, it looks like red, dry scaly patches on the head of the penis.

If an individual has an ineffective immune system due to stress, diabetes, AIDs, or chemotherapy treatment, they are at risk for not only Candida infections of the skin, but also other body systems. This can show up as a sensitivity to some foods including dairy products and gluten.

If a person with AIDS gets a Candida yeast infection it can be very serious. The infection can spread from oral thrush through the entire digestive system. This causes ulcers making it painful to eat or drink. In addition, the body is less able to absorb water and nutrients. Dehydration is a very real risk.

If you are wondering if you have a Candida yeast infection, you should contact your doctor. It is important to make sure to avoid future problems.
