Choosing Yeast Infection Treatments

by James Trevor

There are many forms of yeast infection treatment available on the market today, and this goes to show just how common a problem it is. But how can you know which one is right for you? Also, are natural remedies for yeast infections any good? In this article I’ll tell you a bit about making sure you get the right kind of treatment for you.

The symptoms of a yeast infection are quite broad. Many of the symptoms can also be caused by other illnesses and conditions, which is why it is difficult to treat it yourself. The other problems may also be more serious and not so straightforward to treat as a yeast infection.

This is why it is always recommended that you go and see your doctor if you suspect that you have a yeast infection. Not only will they be able to tell you whether you do have a yeast infection or something else, but they will also be able to advise you on the best form of medication for you and your condition. Not all treatments work for everyone, which is why a doctor is important.

Unless your doctor specifically says so you should not try and get a natural remedy. They are not reliable and in most cases will not work anywhere near as well as medical treatment.

If you have repeated yeast infections then you could always try using the same treatment that your doctor prescribed for you the first time around, but if you have more than three in 12 months you should always revisit your doctor as it could be being caused by an underlying problem.

Yeast infections are such a common problem amongst women – most will get one at some point in their lives. Luckily though there are lots of treatments that have been proven to work well, so go and get advice from your doctor and get the problem sorted as soon as possible with real yeast infection treatments.

Yeast Infection Treatments

by Jia Lussi

Yeast Infection is something which has happened to every body at one point of their life. One must guard oneself from any unhygienic lifestyle to avoid yeast infection because this very natural and there is nothing to be self conscious about it.

The species which causes yeast infections are frequently part of the human body’s normal oral and intestinal flora. Treatment with antibiotics can lead to eliminating the yeast’s natural competitors for resources, and increase the severity of the condition.

Candidiasis or yeast infection is commonly treated with antimycotics”the antifungal drugs commonly used to treat candidiasis are topical clotrimazole, topical nystatin, fluconazole, and topical ketoconazole. For example, a one-time dose of fluconazole (as Diflucan 150-mg tablet taken orally) has been reported as being 90% effective in treating a vaginal yeast infection. This dose is only effective for vaginal yeast infections, and other types of yeast infections may require different treatments.

In case of severe infections amphotericin B, caspofungin, or voriconazole may be used. Local treatment may include vaginal suppositories or medicated douches are also used in the advanced stage of the infection. Gentian violet can be used for breastfeeding thrush, but when used in large quantities it can cause mouth and throat ulcerations in nursing babies, and has been linked to mouth cancer in humans and to cancer in the digestive tract of other animals.

Treating candidiasis solely with medication may not give desired results, and other underlying conditions may be the cause. Oral candidiasis can be the sign of a more serious condition, such as HIV infection or other immunodeficiency diseases. Maintaining vulvovaginal health can help prevent vaginal candidiasis.

C. albicans can develop resistance to antimycotic drugs, such as fluconazole, one of the drugs that are often used to treat candidiasis. Recurring infections may be treatable with other anti-fungal drugs, but resistance to these alternative agents may also develop.

Common Coriolus Mushroom vs. Cancer

by Dr. Markho Rafael

Coriolus versicolor may well be the most common mushroom in the world. It grows on dead wood from the rain forest to the taiga.

When one considers Coriolus competing against so many different fungi and bacteria in such diverse environments, its obvious that it must have a powerful immune system, with the potential for powerful medicinal compounds.

In Oriental medicine, Coriolus extract is used as a remedy for liver cancer and jaundice. [160] To modern medicine, the best researched medicinal compound from Coriolus is known as PSK. Under the brand name Krestin, PSK is used in Asia as a cancer drug. [188]

In the 1990′s, two Japanese studies including 486 patients reported increased survival when PSK was used as an adjunct to chemotherapy for gastric cancer. [161, 162, 163] Other studies have shown that PSK reduces metastasis and cancer recurrence. [161, 162, 164]

Two polysaccharides from Coriolus known as CVP and SPCV have shown an inhibitory effect on leukemia. CVP was reported to reduce leukemia cell proliferation with no harm to healthy lymphocytes. [165, 166, 167, 168]

The compounds of Coriolus versicolor extract appear to work in two ways to combat cancer:

1) By a direct inhibitory effect on the proliferation of cancer cells.

2) By stimulating the activity of NK (Natural Killer) cells in the patient. [169, 170, 171] NK cells are an important part of the immune response to fight cancer.

PSK is used in Asia to treat cervical cancer in conjunction with standard radiation therapy, through which it has been shown to increase survival rate. [134] In a 2001 U.S. study at the New York Medical College, it was also shown to decrease tumor growth in hormone responsive prostate cancer. [172]

PSK has also been tested with promising results against colon, lung and breast cancer. [25, 173] It appears to have no effect on Sarcoma 180. [174]

PSK is also a powerful antibiotic, specifically against Listeria monocytogenes, Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Cryptococcus neoformans and Staphylococcus aureus. [175, 176, 177, 178, 179]

Petri dish trials of a different compound (PSP) isolated from Coriolus versicolor has even been shown to inhibit replication [180] and infection [181] of HIV. It has not yet been tested on live subjects.

In 1995, a study on rheumatoid arthritis and PSK reported normalization of immune function. [182]

Paul Stamets, in his book Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms, says he’s aware of several individuals with Hepatitis C reporting symptom relief on a regimen of medicinal mushroom tea. In particular, he mentions a man with a swollen spleen and liver. Every day, he would drink a tea made from Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) and Coriolus versicolor (Turkey Tail Mushroom). The swelling disappeared after two weeks. His liver enzymes normalized as HVC was reduced from 1.3 million to 140,000. [183]

Coriolus versicolor extracts also contain many antioxidant compounds, [184, 185, 186, 187] and may assist the recovery of the spleen after radiation. [189]

Finally, in the book Mycelium Running, Paul Stamets lists two additional areas of promising research on Coriolus versicolor: Kidney health and uterine cancer. [134]

Yeast Infection Causes and Cures

by Margarette Auzston

Yeast infection causes are something that many people do not know about. This is what this article will hopefully change. A yeast infection is caused by a bacterial organism called candida. It can affect the genital areas as well as orally, in creases of skin folds, the digestive system and the skin itself.

The reason most yeast infections happen is down to the PH in the body being thrown off its usual course. It can also be caused by some medications, this is because as well as killing off the bacteria they have been designed to do they also kill off the good bacteria that keeps the candida in balance. The candida not being in balance is what can cause the infection in the first place.

Many people suffer from different forms of yeast infection but the most common is in the private areas of both men and women. Because of the way women are made they are usually the main sufferers. This is usually called thrush. There are different parts of the body the yeast infections can affect, which are any area that is starved of oxygen by clothing or areas that get damp or are not dried properly. This can also happen when you sweat during exercise. Certain products that people wash with and contain perfumes can also be an contribute.

Yeast infections of the vagina and penis are NOT an STD. The yeast infection however which is known mainly by the name thrush can be spread by sexual intercourse but it is not necessarily the cause of the infection. It can occur in anyone no matter what age sex or whether they are or are not sexually active.

Symptoms that you should be aware of can be one or more, or even all of them. You may feel an itching, or soreness when you use the bathroom. You could also have a discharge which has been resembled to a cottage cheese consistency.

Some newborns are born with thrush in their mouths and other areas, and it can be spread to mother if she is breast feeding or to others if they put their fingers into baby’s mouth or other areas of their body. If the infection is spread to the breast the nipple may become sore and itchy in the surrounding area. If in the mouth you will notice white spots on the tongue as well as a possible white coating and can affect food tastes. It can also spread to the throat which can be extremely uncomfortable for children and adults alike.

Some people after having one bout of a yeast infection continue to have others for some time after. This is nothing to worry about as there are lots of over the counter creams, pills and pessaries available over the counter to get rid of the symptoms.

But the best medicine for any type of ailment is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Although there is no set way to stop it from happening altogether it can be prevented by taking a few simple measures.

Wearing looser underwear and clothing will help let the skin breathe, preventing areas from getting moist and turning into a yeast infection. You will need to avoid using soaps that are perfumed as this can cause irritation. There are products available that are made especially for the genital area which will help prevent the body’s PH being disturbed. In other areas of the body you need to make sure that they are dried properly after washing even if you need to use a cotton bud to get into small creases especially if it is a child who has been infected.

To stop the infection being spread you need to make sure you do not share towels, and ensure that underwear is washed each day, douching is not a good idea as this can take away natural oils that are naturally present in the vagina and cause imbalances further which lead to thrush.

Never allow yourself to suffer because you feel embarrassed because you are not alone and the symptoms are not easy to get rid of on your own without medical intervention. You can get medicine over the counter or you can visit your health professional. If you do have a thrush problem that keeps coming back, go and see your GP as there is help available.
