by Catherine Arnett

There are lots of odd commercial advertisements selling yeast infection creams and ointments of all sorts. You may be sitting there watching wondering what exactly a yeast infection and what it does. Basically it’s a fungus of the vagina that starts because of an overproduction of yeast. Yeast infections are very common and most women will experience one or more in their lifetime. The treatments are simple and the conditions are life threatening, just irritating. Here are some of the signs so you can tell if you have one or not.

Itchy vagina An overly itchy vagina can be a red flag that something other than razor burn is going on, especially if after you itch it the sensation just becomes worse. This is caused by the inflammation being further inflamed by your contact and skin to skin irritation.

Painful urination If you feel a burning sensation when you pee or have a lot of difficulty peeing because it feels like someone is squeezing your vagina and bladder, you may have a yeast infection. The pain is severe and makes you want to not pee but it still comes and very little comes out it seems although it feels as though you have to go all the time.

Overproduction of vaginal discharge Every woman experiences small amounts of discharge for a variety of reasons. However if the discharges increase, becomes heavy, lumpy or takes on a different coloring there may be something wrong like a yeast infection. This is the sign or symptom of several conditions however so no one quick diagnosis may be made from this alone.

Tender vagina and vulva A sore vagina can be caused by lots of things but if your vagina and vulva are suddenly sore all over and are tender to the touch it may be a yeast infection. This is caused by the inflammation of the area and will make every sensation intensified.

Sex hurts It’s not supposed to hurt so if the point of insertion is excruciatingly painful and you find yourself not wanting be penetrated there is a problem. Stay away from sex until your infection is cured or you will make it worse.
